Our story
Caring for children has always been a part of my life.
I started watching children at the age of 11 as a mother’s helper. I eventually became babysitter, part-time nanny, household manager, and music teacher. I built strong relationships with each of the families I cared for and loved every moment of caring for their children.
When I started college, I quickly realized that I would not be able to keep up with my new school and work demands. I felt a deep responsibility to ensure “my” families had quality care. So, my solution was to run up and down the halls of my dorm yelling, “Does anyone babysit? Does anyone like kids?” Not only did I make quite a few new friends that way, but I also created the foundation for a future business. When I was unavailable for a babysitting job, I would send one of my newfound friends. Although I always encouraged the family to call me first, being able to send someone who I trusted to help the family was an amazing second option.
By my senior year, I was connecting 25-30 babysitters with my families. One of my clients suggested I create a business to help even more local families find caregivers. I remember saying out loud to him, “Someone would pay me to find them a babysitter?” And so, Preferred ChildCare (PCC) was born and has become so much more than babysitting.
Today, my business is more useful than ever. As a widowed mother of four children (ages 14, 11, 8 and 3), I depend on our caregivers, tutors, and pet sitters. I also have an amazing full-time nanny who is practically family. I know first-hand the difference that quality, dependable care can make in a family's life. When my son lights up because his nanny walks through the door, or my girls get excited when their favorite babysitter arrives, it allows me to leave feeling a little bit less guilty. When I come home and the toys are straightened, the kitchen counters are clean, and my kids are playing in the backyard, I feel relieved and at peace.
This business has become more than just a way to help families find babysitters. We have helped create thousands of jobs, we allow working parents to focus on their careers, and we help parents feel relief that things are great at home so they can be the parent they want to be. We help positively impact lives and give back to our community through our partnership with Backpack Beginnings. PCC has become my entire life's work, and I am incredibly proud and thankful to have been given this incredible opportunity.
We are excited you found us and hope you will become a part of PCC. We would love for you to be a part of the story that inspires us every day!
A ChildCare Specialist is someone who does more than caregiving.
For our Specialists, children are a passion and way of life. Our team is diverse and has different backgrounds; however, one common thread is their love for children and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those around them.
Our ChildCare Specialists are experienced, trained, screened, and trusted. We use motivational interviewing techniques, situational questions, and meet our team in person to learn as much as we can about them.
Our process is so thorough that only 2% of applicants are offered a position working with us.
