Your Boss Wants to Pay for Your Childcare

Why that’s true, why it’s about time, AND why you should take full advantage.

Corporate childcare is (finally) having its moment. As a nanny agency with deep roots in the childcare industry, we’ve waited a long time to celebrate this much-needed progress.

After all, that’s how progress usually goes, isn’t it? It begins slowly until BOOM, you start seeing that change everywhere. And momentum is on our side as more and more employers are offering childcare as part of their employee benefits package (or they will be soon).

Here are a few reasons why your boss wants to pay for your childcare, and a few reasons why you should let them.

Employers want to be problem-solvers to attract top talent.

You don’t need us to tell you that the United States has been facing a childcare crisis for a while.

As a parent, you know better than anyone the challenges that come with balancing your career while simultaneously raising children. And for many, work-life balance can be unobtainable.

At the center of this struggle is the challenge of finding quality, affordable childcare. But come on, it’s 2024, and you shouldn’t have to choose between your career or parenthood.

Getting (and keeping!) people in the workforce.

Parents, especially mothers, often have to scale back work hours or leave their jobs altogether to care for their children. Those who do end up taking time off find it challenging to resume their careers later on.

Of course, the impact extends far beyond the home and workplace into society. Reduced workforce participation equates to less taxes collection and minimizing economic growth, which hampers the United States’ ability to compete globally in various sectors.

Rested, healthy parents make better employees.

Think about your own situation. How many times have you pushed through at full capacity after trying to find childcare support to allow you to take a break and rest? It is unsurprising that many parents suffer from elevated stress, burnout, and other physical and mental health concerns.

Far too often, inadequate childcare options and financial concerns prevent parents from seeking timely medical care for themselves or their children. Employers understand that this cycle eventually increases absenteeism and reduces productivity.

Childcare costs shouldn’t cause financial strain.

High childcare costs can sometimes even surpass rent or mortgage payments, which makes hiring a babysitter unaffordable for many. This frequently puts low-income families between a rock and a hard place because how can you apply for a better job when you don’t have reliable childcare?

Therefore, upward mobility becomes even more difficult, which perpetuates inequality. Even if you’re fortunate enough to be able to afford childcare, it still limits your disposable income, putting you at a disadvantage over your childless coworkers and impacting your spending patterns.

Unregulated or substandard childcare isn’t worth the risk.

An underfunded childcare system puts increased pressure on existing providers. Prices go up, spaces disappear, and some families resort to under-the-table childcare arrangements.

Unstable childcare environments jeopardize your childrens’ safety and compromise trust in your provider because tax collection is the law!

Clearly, as a society, it’s to everyone’s advantage for policymakers, businesses, and communities to support nationwide childcare initiatives. And it’s in your best interest to take full advantage of your access to affordable, high-quality childcare.

Let our team help your employer help you.

If your company isn’t offering corporate childcare as part of your benefits package (yet), we’d love to help them see the light! If you put us in touch with someone at your organization who’s involved with HR decision-making, we’ll provide the evidence to help them see reason.

Even just include us on the CC-line in a brief email introduction and we’ll take care of the rest. Plus, it would be our pleasure to show you our appreciation with a gift card as a thank you for the referral. Drop us a line at info@preferredchildcare.com to learn more!

Is corporate childcare already one of your employer-provided benefits but you’re unsure how to use it? Send us an email to info@preferredchildcare.com so we can help you maximize your annual benefit!

Oftentimes, we can partner directly with your insurance, which makes it seamless for you to book a quality babysitter while we handle the cumbersome reimbursement process.

We’ve built several packages to specifically help companies offer cost-effective, quality childcare solutions to their employees. It’s the modern way for them to support their staff in managing work-life balance and ensuring their children are well cared for without having to worry about all the payment and process details.

Because, after all, a benefit shouldn’t create more work for you!

“We are new to Greensboro and have used Preferred ChildCare several times for sitters and now to find a night nanny for our twins. They have been extremely professional, and our 2-year-old has had a great time with them.” – Timothy M.
